How Fleece, Soft Shell and Puffer Vests Take Thread

The same logo stitches three different ways depending on what the vest is made of. Before you pick a style for the color or the brand name, it helps to know how each fabric behaves under a needle, because that decides how big the logo can be and where it can go.

Fleece is the easiest. It is soft, thick and forgiving, and it holds a fairly full chest logo. The one catch is the pile. Thin lettering sinks into the fuzz and disappears, so we lay a topping film over the face and a solid underlay beneath the design to keep the stitches standing up.

Soft shell is a tight woven face bonded to a thin fleece back. It gives the cleanest, sharpest look of the three, which is why offices like it. Every needle hole is permanent on that smooth face, so placement has to be right the first time, and the stitch count stays moderate so the panel does not pucker.

Puffer vests are the hard one. The quilted channels, called baffles, are stuffed with insulation, and stitching across them crushes the loft and punches holes in the shell. The honest advice is a small logo on a flat panel or inside one baffle on the left chest. A big design across several channels will look lumpy and leak fill.

If your logo is detailed and you want it large, choose fleece or soft shell. If you want the puffy look, keep the mark simple and small. We look at your art against the vest you pick and tell you plainly if it needs to shrink or change fabric before you see a proof.

Price Vests for the Whole Office

Pick a fabric and a maker, set your logo on the chest and enter the count. The price updates as you build, so you can compare a puffer against a soft shell before anyone fills out a form.

One Logo, Every Fabric

Soft shell for the office and fleece for the field can carry the same logo file. Each vest style and color starts its own run of 24, and every size counts toward it.

See the Logo on the Vest

Your proof shows the logo at true size on the chest of the exact vest, with thread colors named. Nothing is stitched until you approve it.

Old Logo Files Welcome

A low resolution logo from an old website or a scan of a business card is enough. We redraw it so it stitches cleanly on fleece, soft shell or puffer.

When Offices Order Company Vests With Their Logo

Vests are a shoulder season garment, worn in the cool weeks on either side of real winter. That makes the calendar for ordering them a little different from coats or tees. Count back about 14 days from proof approval and add time to gather sizes from a busy office.

Fall Kickoff

Many offices hand out vests when the mornings first turn cool in September. Gather sizes in August, while people are still back from vacation and easy to reach.

Trade Show Season

Booth staff in matching vests are easy to spot across a crowded floor. Order a few weeks before the show so a reprint is possible if a size runs short.

Year End Gifts

A logo vest is a common holiday gift for staff and top clients. Place the order by early November, before the end of year rush on every shop.

Spring Layers

Golf clubs and outdoor crews order again in early spring, when a jacket is too much but a polo alone is not enough on the first round of the year.

New hire packs are the steady order underneath all of this. Keep the logo file and vest style on record, and a small run of 24 restocks the shelf for the next group of hires.

The Vest Over a Button-Down

Walk through a bank, a title office or a tech company on a cool morning and you will see it again and again, a soft shell or puffer vest over a collared shirt. It looks put together without the formality of a blazer, and it keeps a person warm at a desk where the air conditioning never quite shuts off.

For a company, that combination is the easiest uniform to roll out. Nobody has to give up their own shirts. Staff keep wearing the button-downs they already own, and the vest with the company logo on the chest ties the whole team together at a client lunch or an open house.

Color does a lot of the work. Black, charcoal and navy vests go over almost any shirt, which matters when every employee brings a different wardrobe. A bright vest can work for a booth or an event team, but for everyday office wear the darker colors get worn far more often.

Vests also layer in the other direction. Crews wear a fleece vest over a hoodie, golfers wear a soft shell over a polo, and a puffer goes under a rain shell on a wet day. Arms stay free to swing a club, lift a box or type, which is why a vest gets worn when a full jacket stays on the hook.

Tell us who the vests are for and the date you need them. We will check your logo against soft shell, fleece and puffer and quote whichever fabric fits the job.

Brand Name Embroidered Vests and the Maker's Logo

We stock vests from five makers. Soft shell vests come from Eddie Bauer and The North Face, the textured fleece vest is Carhartt, the puffer is Independent Trading Co. and DRI DUCK makes a canvas vest. The North Face and Carhartt pages go deeper on those two brands. We buy all of them as genuine garments through authorized apparel distributors.

Each maker's own small logo stays on the vest. We never cover it, pick it off or stitch over it. Your logo goes where the maker leaves room, which on the vests we stock is the left chest, and on most of them the upper back can carry a second mark for a team name or a website.

A custom North Face vest or a Carhartt vest is only sold decorated. We cannot sell those two brands blank, so every one we ship carries your logo. Large orders from The North Face and Carhartt may need the brand to approve your logo through the distributor, which can add time before production starts.

Colors change by maker and by season, so the studio shows what is in stock right now rather than a list that goes stale. You can mix makers in one order, such as soft shell vests for the front office and fleece vests for the field team, all with the same logo and one proof per style.

Questions About Vests With Your Logo

What is the minimum order for embroidered vests?

Orders start at 24 pieces per design. A design is one vest style in one color, and any mix of sizes counts toward it. A soft shell for the office and a fleece for the field can carry the same logo file, and each one starts its own run of 24. Olive Branch Apparel in Fort Collins, Colorado stitches every vest, production takes about 14 days from proof approval, and UPS Ground shipping to any US address is included in the price.

Which vest fabric is best for a detailed logo?

Soft shell or fleece. Both have a flat enough face to hold fine detail at chest size, and embroidered vests in soft shell look the sharpest of all. A puffer has quilted baffles that break up a big design, so detailed logos should go on one of the other two.

Can you embroider a large logo on a puffer vest?

We do not recommend it. Stitching across the baffles flattens the insulation, makes the logo look lumpy and leaves holes for fill to work out. A small logo on a flat panel or inside one baffle on the chest looks clean and keeps the vest warm.

Which vest works for staff who sit at a desk all day?

A soft shell vest is the usual answer. It is thin enough to sit comfortably in a desk chair, blocks the draft from an air vent and looks neat over a collared shirt. Fleece runs a little warmer and more casual, and a puffer suits people who step outside often.

Will the brand's logo still show on the vest?

Yes. The maker's small logo stays where it was sewn, and we never cover or remove it. Your logo goes in the room the maker leaves, usually the left chest, and on most vests the upper back can take a second mark.

Can I order a North Face or Carhartt vest without a logo?

No. Those two brands are only sold decorated, so every vest from them ships with your logo stitched on. Large orders may also need the brand to approve the logo through the distributor, which can add time. Plan big orders early.

How long do embroidered vests take?

Standard turnaround is about 14 days from proof approval. Collecting sizes from an office usually takes longer than the stitching, so start that early. If you need embroidered vests for a specific event or gift date, ask, and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.

How do vests fit compared to a jacket?

Vests are cut to layer, so most people order their usual size and it fits over a button-down or a light sweater. Someone planning to wear a vest over a heavy hoodie may want one size up. If the team is split on sizing, order a few spares in the middle sizes.

How much do company vests with your logo cost?

The fabric, the maker, your logo's stitch count and the number of vests all play a part. Try them in the studio and watch the per-piece price move, knowing UPS Ground shipping is already in that figure.

Why order vests from a shop instead of a big online printer?

You talk to a person in Fort Collins weekdays 9 to 5 Mountain who will steer you to the right fabric for your logo. A proof comes before any stitching, old logo files get redrawn, shipping is included, and brand approvals for The North Face or Carhartt go through the distributor on our end.
