Custom Restaurant Shirts and Staff Uniforms

Custom restaurant shirts, embroidered aprons, and server uniforms that survive a real service. Olive Branch Apparel prints restaurant staff shirts for kitchens, front of house, cafes, and bars that reorder every few months.

Restaurant t-shirts, custom server shirts, embroidered chef aprons, cafe staff uniforms, and bar staff apparel. Front of house, kitchen, and aprons each want a different blank, and all of them come off a single order.

Restaurant Uniforms Fail On Wash Cycles, Not Design

Almost nobody replaces custom restaurant shirts because they got bored of the design. They replace them because the collar stretched, the print cracked, or the color faded three shades after two months of hot washing.

Restaurant staff shirts get washed harder than any other uniform category. A server shirt goes through the machine after every single shift, often on hot, often with bleach nearby. A brewery tee might see forty washes a year. A restaurant t-shirt sees closer to two hundred.

That changes what to buy. Ring-spun cotton feels lovely and pills fast under that load. Cotton-poly blends hold shape and color far longer, which is why nearly every custom restaurant shirt we recommend for front of house is a blend rather than a pure cotton tee.

If you are reordering staff shirts more than twice a year, the blank is wrong, not the design.

Print method matters too. A thick plastisol print on a server shirt will crack along fold lines under heavy washing. Softer water-based inks sit inside the fabric rather than on top of it, which survives the laundry cycle far better on custom restaurant uniforms.

What Each Role Actually Needs

A restaurant is four or five different jobs wearing one logo. Buying identical custom restaurant shirts for all of them is how uniform budgets get wasted.

Role What works Why
Servers Cotton-poly blend tee or a fitted custom server shirt, dark color, small chest logo Constant washing, constant customer contact. Dark hides spills and a small logo reads as intentional rather than promotional.
Kitchen and BOH Durable cotton tee, larger logo, cheaper blank Heat, grease, and short lifespan. These custom restaurant shirts are consumable, so buy them to replace rather than to last.
Bar staff Heavier tee or a custom bar shirt with rolled sleeves, bold branding The bar is the most photographed part of the room. Bar staff apparel is doing real marketing work.
Chefs and management Embroidered apron over a plain base, or an embroidered polo Embroidery reads as senior. A custom embroidered chef apron elevates the whole room at low cost.
Hosts Embroidered polo or a nicer blank in a distinct color First thing a guest sees. Worth spending slightly more on than the rest of the restaurant staff uniforms.

Aprons Do More Brand Work Than Shirts

Custom Embroidered Aprons

An embroidered apron sits at eye level, stays clean-looking longer than a shirt, and costs less than you would guess per unit.

Logo Embroidery Detail

Embroidery on a heavy apron canvas holds detail that would never survive on a thin tee, so your full restaurant logo can run at size.

If you only upgrade one thing in your restaurant uniforms, upgrade the aprons. A custom embroidered apron over a plain black tee looks more considered than a fully branded shirt in most dining rooms, and it wears far better because the apron takes the abuse instead of the shirt.

Aprons also solve the turnover problem. A departing server takes their shirt with them. Aprons stay with the restaurant, get washed in house, and pass to the next hire. Over a year of normal staff churn, embroidered aprons cost a fraction of what replacing branded custom restaurant shirts costs.

Design Your Restaurant Staff Shirts

Put your restaurant logo on a real shirt, set your staff count, and watch custom restaurant shirt pricing update live. Opened on a durable blend tee, which is what holds up best in service.

Ordering Around Staff Turnover

Restaurant turnover is the highest of any industry we print for, and it quietly wrecks uniform budgets. The instinct is to order exactly enough custom restaurant shirts for current staff. Three months later you are placing a rush order for four shirts at a terrible per-unit price.

Order to your roster plus forty percent, weighted toward medium and large. Those extra restaurant staff shirts cost very little at volume and they mean a new hire gets a proper uniform on day one instead of wearing a borrowed shirt for a fortnight.

Keep the design undated and location-neutral if you might open a second site. A custom restaurant shirt that says only the restaurant name transfers to a new location. One that names a street or a year does not.

Then reorder on a schedule instead of on a crisis. Twice a year on the same custom restaurant uniforms costs less than four panic orders, and because we keep your screens on file the repeat runs skip setup entirely.

One practical note for anyone running several sites. Order all locations together even if you distribute separately. The combined quantity on custom restaurant shirts almost always drops you into a better price band than each location ordering alone, and the shirts match across the group, which matters more than most owners expect.

Running more than one location?

Order the group together and the whole thing drops a price band.

Cafes and Coffee Shops Are A Different Animal

Coffee shops get lumped in with restaurants and they should not be. A barista stands in one place facing customers at close range for a whole shift, so the uniform gets studied rather than glimpsed, and breathability matters far more than it does in a dining room.

The apron also carries more of the branding in a cafe than it ever does in a restaurant, because customers photograph their drink and the barista is in the frame.

We wrote that up properly rather than squeezing it in here. See custom coffee shop shirts and barista aprons for the full detail.

Restaurant Uniform Questions

What is the best shirt for restaurant staff?

A cotton-poly blend in a dark color for front of house, and a cheaper durable cotton tee for kitchen. Blends survive the wash cycle that kills pure cotton custom restaurant shirts, and dark colors hide the inevitable. Avoid ultra-soft retail blanks for staff, they wear out fast under restaurant laundry.

Should restaurant shirts be printed or embroidered?

Printed for shirts, embroidered for aprons and polos. Screen printing is cheaper and better suited to the disposable nature of custom restaurant uniforms. Embroidery earns its cost on the pieces that last, which in a restaurant means aprons, host polos, and outerwear.

How many custom restaurant shirts per staff member?

Two minimum, three is better. A server working consecutive shifts needs a clean shirt each time and laundry does not always keep up. Ordering two custom restaurant shirts per person plus a turnover buffer is the standard we see work.

Do you do aprons with individual staff names?

We do. Names can be embroidered onto custom aprons inside a single order, same restaurant logo on every one, different name on each. It costs less than ordering blanks and adding names later, and everything arrives sorted.

Can you match our restaurant's brand colors?

Closely, yes. Screen printing inks mix to a specific color, so printed custom restaurant shirts can match a brand color tightly. Embroidery thread comes in fixed ranges, so we match to the nearest and show you a proof first.

What is the minimum order for restaurant uniforms?

No minimum. That said, per-shirt pricing on custom restaurant shirts improves sharply around 24 and again around 48, so most single-location restaurants order their full staff plus buffer in one run rather than a handful at a time.

Should staff shirts have the restaurant logo front or back?

Front, small, left chest for most front of house roles. A large back print reads as promotional merchandise rather than a uniform, which is fine for a casual counter-service spot and wrong for a dining room. Kitchen custom restaurant shirts can carry a bigger logo since nobody is dining next to them.

Do you print for restaurant groups with several locations?

Regularly, and combining locations into one order is almost always cheaper. Same custom restaurant shirts, same screens, one price break across the whole group. We can box and label per location so distribution is straightforward on your end.

How do we stop staff taking uniforms when they leave?

Honestly, you mostly do not, which is why we push aprons for the pieces you want back. Embroidered aprons stay on site and get laundered in house. Treat branded custom restaurant shirts as something that walks out the door eventually and price your order accordingly rather than fighting it.
